BIOGRAPHY

Lindsay McLeod

Lindsay McLeod B.A.

I was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon. I am a 2003 graduate of the University of Oregon. I am presently working on earning a State certification for addiction counseling. Prior to becoming a counselor, I volunteered at "The Uhlhorn"-a residency for survivors of traumatic brain injury to relearn life skills to live and work independently in the community. I joined Lifestyle Changes in 2006 to work with MAx Fabry who is known for her work with survivors of traumatic brain injury who also have addictions. I also have built a practice with individual adolescent coaching with taking on different approaches based on the individual client needs. In addition, I have participated in Ms. Fabry's 'Moving On' grief and loss workshops as well as rewriting this workshop into 'Migrations'. 'Migrations' helps adolescents learn more about themselves, the journey they are on called 'life', and prepares them for their transition from school to the 'real world' by equipping them with a plan and tools to make it through the maze of employment, educational systems, volunteering, starting families, etc.

Upon meeting my clients, I make sure that they are comfortable talking to me about general topics before starting more personal, therapeutic conversations. I want clients to feel that they have found someone that they can openly and comfortably talk with. I base my practice on the Motivational model, which helps clients to hear their thoughts in their own words. This in turn helps them to visualize how they see themselves and their situation and what they can do to change themselves and/or their situation to reach their life goals. I work well with anybody that is open to change and new ideas about how they want to attain their life goals-even if they don't have a specific one in mind. I like to use creative (ethical) exercises to help my clients visualize options in their lives that might be useful in the future, or help them uncover a hidden interest or characteristic they might not have previously thought about. I work well with adolescents because I am not judgmental based on past experiences, and I am not directly confrontational which can make any person uncomfortable, especially a young person who is still trying to figure out their identity.
